OTHER DETAILS:

Ranchwood Banana Split is a 15year old Palomino Stallion that is known as ‘Mac’ at home, he is my Mum’s horse really, as she got him when I was very young, he was a two year old unbacked colt and was a very ‘wishy washy’ pale cream colour, nothing like the fantastic gold that he is today. He is not very big, only 15.1hh which for affiliated BSJA (British Show Jumping) he is often the smallest in the class. He always gets lots of admirers at shows because of his striking colour and really long blonde tail, he also is really well known for his bucks, they are huge! He never bucks because he is naughty, it is his way of being excited, he really enjoys his jumping and cannot wait to get into the ring to compete! I cannot really remember much before Mac was around, so he has always been part of my growing up with the horses. I have ridden him since I was very small, just for a few minutes when Mum had been schooling him, he is always kind and I’m sure he knew to be extra careful with me although now I compete him and have grown taller than my Mum he bucks and bounces going into the ring just as he always did when Mum rode him! Mac has been my ‘Schoolmaster’ moving from Junior to Senior jumping, it has made the transition easier as he has quite a short stride, similar to my ponies. The move to horses from ponies is quite hard for most of us young riders moving up to compete in the senior classes, as the striding is completely different plus the ponies seem to come with that all important ‘fifth’ leg! Crucial when the rider has got it all wrong and completely messed up!! Apart from needing to keep Mac on his own in the field (For obvious reasons!) We are able to treat him just as we do the other horses on the yard, he is very kind and easy to handle, never biting or being nasty as some stallions can be. I ride him most days, either schooling him, lunging him or hacking out, I try to give him as much variation as I can so that he does not get bored; it is really important to keep him fit and spending as much time as I can with him at home gives us a chance to really get to know each other, which without doubt helps us with our partnership in the ring. Jabberwocky is my second ride, he is a 16.1hh dark bay, six year old gelding. He is known as Ozzy at home and I have had him since he was a yearling. My Mum found Ozzy in a dreadful state at a dealers yard, he was covered in lice, really skinny, had hooves that were badly overgrown and having never been handled was extremely scared of people. Despite all of his problems Mum thought he was a good horse, so she brought him. We had to spend a lot of time with Ozzy when he was young, as he had never been handled nor fed hard feed, he would not eat his feed to begin with! But it did not take long for him to get the idea and now he is very greedy! I have worked really hard with Ozzy, helping to back and break him when he was rising four, he was pretty wilful, as he still can be! He still has the habit of squealing when I canter him if he is really excited and he needs lots and lots of work. To begin with I took him to un-affiliated shows, cross country events and the beach to bring him along and now he is jumping affiliated classes, he has qualified for Scope this year and won at the Internations Cup Show in May, Ozzy has really turned out to be a good competition horse for me and I look forward to our coming events.

Where is summer?? It’s been raining all day so the boys are in there stables keeping dry today. I went jumping on Wednesday to the Jays, Ozzy jumped super picking up a good 3rd all our problems with bits has seemed to settle!! Also took a new ride 'Animate' he jumped clear so I was very pleased with him. Hope all this rain blows over fast so I can get on with the horses before the winter comes!!
